Soon to be Dad

I was up in Edmonton a couple weeks ago, to see my brother Adam and his wife Melanie in the hospital, as they were preparing for the arrival of baby John.

My brother is a goofball in front of the camera, so you have to sneak up on him, catch him when he's lost in his own thoughts to get genuine emotion on film. I really mean film this time too, as I figured my little Pentax K1000 was a little more unobtrusive than my Canon 5D.

A little tip for film lovers. Buy your own scanner. I use the Epson V500, and since I just ask my developer (yes, I mean Walmart) to give me the negatives, (which can be as fast as 20 minutes) it costs me $2.50 instead of $10, and a lot less bulk via stacks of 4x6's I wont need, or use. Oh and did I mention the pictures look better?

Calgary City Skyline 2010

I love skyline shots. They give a real taste for what one can expect when visiting a city. I'm also a big fan of urban architecture. A unique skyline is something I look for when visiting other cities, and one of the things I've always loved about Calgary, ever since I moved here over ten years ago.

Sara & Marshal's Engagement Shoot - Teaser

Today I was scheduled to meet the lovely couple to scout their wedding spot at Confederation Park. I had an amazing time, with lots of laughs. I can't wait for their wedding next month.

More to come!

Alena - V2.0 - Teaser

I've been itching to go shooting outdoors while using off camera flash for awhile. Being a Canadian, I had to wait till May :P

My studio portrait class at SAIT has been a god send, but today afterwards I was still going berserk (maybe it has something to do with my wife being out of town). I asked a couple of my fellow classmates and one of the volunteer models if they wanted to hit the east side of downtown (safety in numbers while traversing dilapidated parts of your city with a few grand in equipment).

Needless to say I'm quite happy with the results. Today was a triple threat! I got to use my 16-35mm on a full frame camera. I got to test out off camera flash in the outdoors and I played with my new circular polarizer.

Stay tuned for the rest of this set, which I'll post in the next day or two.

Eagle Lake

Took a road trip with my wife today. Didn't see too much but I did come across this little gem by accident on our way back.

Morley, Alberta - McDougall Methodist Chruch

This is a view of the McDougall Methodist Church from the site of the (now gone) mission house, just a hundred or so meters behind.
