Today I was scheduled to meet the lovely couple to scout their wedding spot at Confederation Park. I had an amazing time, with lots of laughs. I can't wait for their wedding next month.

Alena - V2.0 - Teaser
I've been itching to go shooting outdoors while using off camera flash for awhile. Being a Canadian, I had to wait till May :P
My studio portrait class at SAIT has been a god send, but today afterwards I was still going berserk (maybe it has something to do with my wife being out of town). I asked a couple of my fellow classmates and one of the volunteer models if they wanted to hit the east side of downtown (safety in numbers while traversing dilapidated parts of your city with a few grand in equipment).
Needless to say I'm quite happy with the results. Today was a triple threat! I got to use my 16-35mm on a full frame camera. I got to test out off camera flash in the outdoors and I played with my new circular polarizer.

Morely, Alberta - Landscape
The prairies may not give up a lot of angles but I still find it one of the most beautiful landscapes on Earth.
This is a view from the McDougall Methodist Church in Morley, Alberta. Now closed and used as a memorial for the McDougall family, particularly Reverend George McDougall who, aside from being my ancestor, was one of Calgary's founding fathers.
This particular day was very windy, and by the time we got back home to Calgary, a snow storm started to roll over out town (yes in April).
This is why all the clouds look as good as they do I think.

Morley, Alberta - McDougall United Church
If you're a Calgarian, and have been for awhile, the name McDougall may be familiar. Perhaps you've heard of McDougall Hall, or went to George McDougall High School.
George McDougall, and his son John McDougall were founding fathers of this city. They attended the first Stampede, riding on horseback down Stephen Avenue a hundred years ago. I was surprised to hold the original of that photo in my hands at the Glenbow Archives, as the McDougall's are my ancestors. Rev. George McDougall being my great great great great great Uncle, and John, my 1st cousin, five times removed.
These pioneers were also missionaries and in 1873 they established a mission with the Nakoda in Morley, Alberta. He was present at the signing of Treaty 6 in 1876, and again at the Treaty 7 negotiations at Blackfoot Crossing in 1877. He acted as translator and advisor to the Nakoda Nation at the Treaty 7 talks.
When I discovered all this and realized a church they built was only an hour away I had to go see it (actually it took me two years of procrastination).
